Tinui meeting
The East Coast Rural Support Trust will be hosting a meeting in Tinui on Monday, May 1, to discuss the recent cyclones that swept the area. The meeting, called by the Wellington Regional Emergency Management, will be held at Tinui Hall from 6-8.30pm and is open to the public. A review of cyclones Hale and Gabrielle will be on the agenda, including discussions about future planning.
Weather watch
The chilly start for many places on Anzac Day has landed in Wairarapa, with temperatures forecast to be 3 or 4 degrees Celsius in some towns overnight. Masterton and Martinborough are forecast to have similarly low temperatures in the coming days, with highs in the mid-teens. A strong wind warning is currently in place for the region until 10am today. Metservice issued the warning from midnight last night for Wairarapa north of Masterton, including Tararua District. The westerly gales are forecast to be severe in exposed places, with gusts reaching 120kmh.
Car versus house
Emergency services have responded to a car versus house on State Highway 2 in Tauherenikau, South Wairarapa. Police said no injuries were reported in the single-vehicle crash at 10.30pm on Monday. Police said the car appeared to have left the road at the SH2-Boundary Rd intersection and collided with a house. Police have confirmed no injuries were reported in a single-vehicle crash on the Remutaka Hill on Monday. Emergency services responded to the crash on the Featherston side of the hill just below the summit at 10am. Police said there were no injuries and no road blockages. “Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway.”
Attempted
burglary
Police are investigating reports of an attempted burglary in Masterton. Police said officers responded to reports of a burglary on River Rd at 9pm on Sunday. “Someone was trying to gain entry into a property and fled before police arrived. Inquires are ongoing.” Police are also examining a suspected stolen vehicle found on Iorns St in Masterton. Officers recovered the vehicle at 9.15am yesterday. Police said the vehicle would be examined.
