Power outage

Hundreds of people in Wairarapa were affected by a power outage on Wednesday night caused by damaged equipment on a power pole. A Powerco spokesperson said 691 people in and around the Gladstone area lost power at 8.57pm for 12 minutes. “Powerco was able to reroute the power supply from another line,” the spokesperson said. “Some customers outside the affected area may have experienced flickering lights as the rerouting of the supply to the affected area took place.” Powerco are organising for the damaged equipment to be replaced and a planned power outage will be required but the spokesperson said nobody should be affected by this outage because power will be rerouted from another supply line. Due to the outage, terrestrial television services were temporarily down for the entire region after a generator failed to start after the mains failed at the local television broadcast station. A spokesperson for the company that operates the site said the generator servicing company would investigate why the generator failed to start.

Assault at lake

Police are making follow-up enquiries after being notified of an assault involving two people in a car park by Henley Lake at about 8.45pm on Wednesday. “Police are speaking to those that saw what happened,” a police spokesperson said. One person has been arrested after a shoplifting report yesterday. The report was to a commercial address on Bruce St in Masterton between Dixon and Queen streets at 12.15pm. Police also responded to a car crash yesterday at 2.18pm. The two-vehicle crash on Pownall St in Masterton near the Renall St roundabout had no reported injuries and the road was not blocked to other traffic.

The highest wind speed predicted is a 15kmh northeasterly at about 1pm before changing to a northerly from 3pm.
