Crossing closed
Featherston’s Fitzherbert St level crossing will have a full closure from 9pm tonight until 8am tomorrow morning and a detour will be in place. This is to allow KiwiRail to continue its safety upgrades to the crossing and prepare for the next stage. Tonight they will install remaining traffic signs, ground ducting, and signal bases in the rail corridor, and fencing at the permanent position around the pedestrian crossing. The next stage will be done on Wednesday night from 9pm to 5.30am Thursday morning.
Street closures
Several streets will be closed today for the Martinborough Fair. Jellicoe, Oxford, Texas, Cambridge, Kitchener, Ohio, and Kansas streets, as well as State Highway 54 between the Ohio St junction and Martinborough Square, and the roads surrounding Martinborough Square. The closures will be in place from 8am to 4pm.
Tora bins
Starting today, the public litter bins at Tora have been removed in an effort to promote a “pack in, pack out” practice for visitors and locals. This comes after ongoing issues with bins left overflowing with household waste. South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] has tried to address concerns before but has not been able to resolve the issue. The decision will be reviewed throughout the year.
