Planned
water shutdown

Masterton District Council has advised residents on Worksop Rd and Sussex St that water may shut off for water main maintenance today from 9am to 3pm. MDC has “apologised for any inconvenience caused” and suggests storing water before it is turned off for use during the shutdown period. In the event of inclement weather, maintenance work will be deferred to a later date.

Unplanned
water shutdown

A spokesperson from Masterton District Council said the council has requested a report from contractors on why water remained disconnected to around 10 properties until approximately 9:40pm on Wednesday, June 12 after mains work on Worksop Rd and Kirton St was completed. A scheduled outage was intended to last from 9am to 3pm, which was the case for most properties. MDC has “apologised for the inconvenience and is working with the contractor to avoid it happening again. There was no impact on the quality of drinking water.”

Rego reminder

Tararua District Council is reminding people to register their dogs. If you live in the countryside and own a non-working dog, you need to register it as a rural domestic dog and pay their required fee. Whether you’re on a farm or in town, you can have up to three domestic dogs but if you want more than three, then you’ll need to apply for a permit. For working dogs, a full fee applies for the first five dogs; if you have more than five there is a discount for the extras. For full information on registration and fees, visit tararua.govt.nz.

Police callouts

Police responded to reports of a vehicle crossing the centre line near Jellicoe St in Martinborough at around 5.50pm on Wednesday. Police signalled the vehicle to stop and spoke to the driver. Police also received a report of anti-social driving behaviour at the intersection of Queen and Smith streets in Masterton at around 10pm on Wednesday but found nothing of note upon arrival.

And recruitment

New Zealand Police are currently looking for applicants to become new police officers. More information is available at newcops.govt.nz.
