Incinerator fire
Featherston Volunteer Fire Brigade responded to a small incinerator fire at 8.26pm on Sunday.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson could not confirm if it was a residential or commercial address but said that it was small enough in scale that the owner was able to extinguish it before crew arrived. As a result, brigade members didn’t stay at the scene long, with the spokesperson reporting they arrived at 8.26pm and departed at 8.30pm.
Power outage
There have been two significant power outages in Wairarapa in the past week, Powerco reports. The most recent outage resulted in 589 properties in Masterton losing electricity for around four hours early on Sunday [February 25] morning.
“This was caused by a broken insulator on a power pole,” a Powerco spokesperson said. “The power went out at 3.56am and was restored to all customers by 8.18am.” On Tuesday, February 20, 1223 Featherston customers lost power for almost two hours as a result of a fuse tripping, with Powerco conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident. The outage occurred at 8.18am and “power was progressively restored throughout the morning as crews sectionalised areas and re-livened the electricity network in stages” until “it was fully restored by 10.06am”.
