Boil water
notice issued
Tararua District Council has issued a boil water notice to Woodville residents after a possum was found in the water treatment tank. A spokesperson said that routine sampling was ongoing, and no contaminants such as E. coli had been detected in the water network so far. The boil water notice is issued as a precautionary measure until further investigation, flushing and testing is completed. For any updates on the situation, check TDC’s online communication channels.
Busy night for
fire brigades
The region’s Fire and Emergency NZ [Fenz]crews were kept on their toes with a series of small fires on Thursday night. At 11pm on Thursday, the Masterton brigade was called to Douglas Park with reports of a fire. However, a spokesperson confirmed that, on arrival, there were no signs of a blaze. Shortly after 12pm, the Carterton brigade was called to a two-metre by one-metre fire in the town’s skatepark. A Fenz spokesperson who attended the scene said that it was small enough to be extinguished without any issues “by stomping it out with a couple of size nine boots”.
They said there was no one present at the scene but that, at this stage, the fire was being treated as suspicious. At 6am yesterday, the Martinborough brigade responded to a small grass fire on the side of the road in South Wairarapa. A spokesperson said that the fire was out on arrival, and the crew didn’t need to assist further.
Arrest made
after fire
A police spokesperson said officers also attended the fire at Douglas Park, Masterton. The spokesperson said one person was arrested in relation to this incident.
Also facing a busy past few days, police visited a residential address at Dee Place in Masterton yesterday at 9.15am, and arrested one person with an outstanding warrant. At around 11am, police also responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on SH2, Ahikouka. The spokesperson said there was no road closure, and one person received minor injuries.
