Buses to
replace trains

Metlink has advised that the Wairarapa Line will be replaced with buses for all services between Wellington and Masterton from tomorrow, April 25, to Sunday, April 28. This service change Is due to planned maintenance. Metlink has advised the public to use Carterton Station instead of Matarawa Station because the replacement buses will not stop there. For the same reason, commuters are advised to use the Greytown bus stop instead of Woodside Station.

Burglary busted

Police responded to reports of a burglary on Makoura Rd on Monday at 8pm. A police spokesperson said the alleged burglar was arrested and had his first court appearance yesterday.

Road closures

South Wairarapa District Council is reminding residents there will be several road closures during Anzac Day tomorrow. Moore St and Watt St in Featherston will be closed from 7am to 12pm, while North St in Greytown will be closed from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Bridge closures

The Tauherenīkau River Bridge on SH53 South Featherston will be closed between 7am and 5pm from next Monday [April 29] until early June, Monday through Friday, with no weekend closures.

Anzac holiday rescheduling

Tararua District Council [TDC] is reminding people that due to the Anzac Day public holiday falling on Thursday, the schedule for many services will be changed. Service centres and libraries will be closed all day on Thursday, while transfer stations will be open as usual except for Dannevirke, which closes at 12pm. All kerbside recycling will run as normal, however. TDC has asked people with non-urgent requests wait until Friday to make them, although phone lines will still be open for urgent matters – 06 374 4080 [North] 06 376 0110 [South].

Drop-in session

South Wairarapa District Council is holding a drop-in session today at the Greytown Town Centre between 7pm-8.30pm to enable residents to ask questions and provide feedback about the 2024-2025 Enhanced Annual Plan. Council staff and elected members will be there for people to talk to; tea and coffee will be provided.
