Lotto win

It’s official: A Carterton-based punter did not win the first division prize at the weekend. After initially announcing that a ticket purchased by a Carterton resident had won the $30 million-plus prize, Lotto NZ confirmed yesterday that it was, in fact, bought by a Wellington family syndicate who have asked for anonymity, although they did share that they are occasional players who buy a ticket when the jackpot is over $20 million [the account holder thinks he accidentally entered Carterton when he signed up to MyLotto]. The prize is the largest won by a single ticket since August 2023, when a Paraparaumu couple won $37 million.

Council pop-up

Masterton District Council [MDC] is continuing its drive to get people to have their say on the long-term plan by providing opportunities to speak with the mayor and councillors. MDC’s Library pop-up starts today from 11.30am to 1.30pm, and will continue on Wednesdays. The “Mayor in a Chair” pop-up is on Thursdays, starting tomorrow, from 12pm to 2pm at the Customer Service Centre, 161 Queen St. There will also be a setup at the Thursday night food trucks from 5pm to 7pm in the town square in front of the Town Hall. These pop-ups will be running until early May.

Anzac Day

Carterton District Council is inviting people to join an Anzac service on April 25 at Memorial Square. People can first meet at 10.45am to walk with the parade before the service at 11am. SH2 will be closed from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Water works

Tararua District Council [TDC] is reminding people that tomorrow, Tararua Alliance will be working on the water main in Atkinson St in Woodville from 9am to 1pm. “This work requires water to be shut off to approximately 100 houses in the area,” TDC said in a statement. “If you are an affected property, you will have received a letter in your mailbox.” For enquiries, ring 06 374 4080 [North] or 06 376 0110 [South]
