Police were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision at about 8.40am yesterday at the intersection of Workshop Rd and Hessey St in Masterton. No injuries were reported. A separate incident, just 20 minutes earlier, saw police responding to reports of two men having an altercation on Queen St. Again, no injuries were reported.

comes second
Queen Elizabeth II Park in Masterton has come runner-up for the Peoples Choice award at the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Awards, with the top prize going to Te Ātea Park in Taupō. The finalists for the awards are shortlisted from New Zealand-wide voting.
Lighthouse
goes purple
Visitors to Castlepoint Lighthouse might notice something different this week. The lighthouse will be lit up in purple, along with many other buildings, sculptures, bridges, and statues from around the country, to raise awareness for premature birth. Run by The Little Miracles Trust, the promotion aims to shine a light on the 15 million babies born before their due date every year around the world.
In the swim
Carterton District Council has announced its summer swim hours. The pools will be open from November 25 to December 24, Monday to Friday 2pm – 6pm and on weekends from 10am – 6pm, before closing on Christmas Day and running on reduced hours on Boxing Day and New Years Day. For those hunting for something to do in the weekend, a fun option on the table is this year’s Emergency Services open day held at Carterton’s Carrington Park. The day will include displays and interactive activities from Fire and Emergency New Zealand, New Zealand Police, Wellington Free Ambulance, Life Flight and Civil Defence. Those attending can get involved with police dogs, a car-cutting exercise, and a kitchen fire demonstration, among other planned activities. The day starts at 10am and runs until 3pm.
