Roadworks
SH2 Masterton on Chapel St, between Waltons Ave and Renall St, will have stop-go traffic control tomorrow night to undertake subsurface analysis. Works are between 7pm and 5.30am.
Sewer work
Three Masterton properties impacted by continued sewage overflows have now agreed to have tanks and non-return valves installed on their sewer laterals. Tanks will be delivered and installed over the next two weeks at the Cockburn St properties. Further tank installations will be looked at once these are successfully commissioned, a council report said. – NZLDR
Rubbish delay
Rubbish and recycling collections in South Wairarapa towns will be a day later than usual this week. Greytown will be collected today, Martinborough will be tomorrow, and Featherston will be on Friday.
Day-long outage
Powerco has scheduled an outage for Tinui today to “allow crews to safely carry out three-yearly asset maintenance, including replacing a defective pole”. The outage is set to last from 9.45am until 3.30pm, cutting off power to 543 “customers”. Two further outages will affect 27 customers today, with power off from 8am until 8.45am, and 4pm until 5pm.
Maintenance on parking meters
A report to Masterton District Council’s Infrastructure and Services Committee has revealed work to refurbish the town’s parking meters is not cost-effective. The report stated the town’s parking meters continued to require frequent maintenance and that parts for the meters had been discontinued. “Parts are refurbished and come from Australia,” the report said. “This means broken parts are required to be sent back to Australia for repair. While it’s great to be able to refurbish parts, this is not cost-effective and the travel miles likely more than outweigh the benefits of refurbishing.” At last month’s Annual Plan Hearing, one submitter suggested increasing parking fees and fines by 10 per cent. Another submitter proposed removing parking meters and introducing time-limited parking. Parking options are set to be considered as part of the council’s Levels of Service Review for the Long-Term Plan next year. – NZLDR
