Teodoro scorned

The Times-Age’s Local Democracy Reporter has been told off by a South Wairarapa District councillor for disturbing proceedings at a recent council meeting. On June 7, councillor Alistair Plimmer raised as a point of extraordinary business that he objected to conversations between the media and members of the public during the meeting, which he said created a disturbance to proceedings. Media were requested to take any discussions with the public outside of the supper room.

Scooter safari

Cancer Society Wellington is calling for people to join its Scooter Safari – a 181km journey that’s a tribute to those going through cancer treatment. The challenge takes place this Saturday, July 1, and entails a moped journey from Wellington, over the top of the Remutaka Ranges, then downhill to Masterton. Over $28,000 has been raised so far, with all funds going towards support for cancer patients. Register at www.c2cscootersafari.org/home.

Boardroom hire

The Greytown Trust Lands Boardroom at 124 Main St is now available to the public for casual daytime hire. The boardroom boasts table seating for eight, wifi, a large screen TV, a whiteboard, and a camera for video conferencing. Kitchen facilities are also available. Ditched ute disappears

At 9.15pm on Monday night, police received a report of a ute crashing into a ditch on Opaki Kaiparoro Rd. However, when police attended the site to assist, the vehicle in question was nowhere to be found. Police said it was presumed that the driver was uninjured in the incident and able to continue on.

Pūkaha opening

On Thursday and Friday of next week, Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre, Te Wānanga Taiao, will be officially opened. The facility is dedicated to educating and inspiring Kiwis to be guardians of Te Taiao [the environment] and connect with the mauri [life force] of the forest. Te Wānanga Taiao will have the capacity to hold up to 120 people during the day or 40 people overnight. The opening days are not open to the public.
