camping

South Wairarapa District Council’s [SWDC] proposed freedom camping bylaws are in the final week of consultations. The window for providing feedback closes on Monday, November 13. Submissions can be made online on the SWDC website, or there are feedback forms available at the council office and any of the South Wairarapa libraries. The proposed freedom camping bylaws will help the council determine how and where freedom camping can occur on council-managed land.

Powerco talk

Powerco will have a public meeting at the Tīnui Memorial Hall next Tuesday, November 14. The event is an opportunity to ask questions, give feedback, and be part of the discussion on solutions for energy resilience during unplanned outages. Powerco said the event is not just for Tīnui residents and they will welcome anyone in the wider Wairarapa region who wants to attend. Representatives from Federated Farmers, Wairarapa Emergency Management, MPI and Rural support will attend. Refreshments and a light supper are being provided.

Peter Laing Memorial Trust Grants close at 4pm this Friday, November 10. Masterton District Council [MDC] runs the Peter Laing Memorial Trust Grants applications. The grant is designed to assist people who intend to follow a practical career in farming. The grants can help pay for practical training to help get a headstart in the agricultural industry or specialist equipment if you’re starting your first job in the agricultural sector. Police enquiries

Police enquiries are underway after responding to reports of graffiti on a building in High St near Broadway yesterday, shortly after 2.15pm. They also responded to a report of online threats being made, which they are following up and investigating. Police mediation was needed after a physical altercation in a vehicle on Queen St near Bannister St, which continued verbally out of the vehicle. No injuries were reported and the conflict eventually died out.
