Carterton water shutdown today

The water supply at several addresses in Carterton will be interrupted today between 9am and 3pm to allow for repairs to be carried out on a leaking valve. Odd numbers 11 through to 127 and even numbers 82 to 160 on Belvedere Rd, as well as 1 Hereford Dr, will be affected by the shutdown. A spokesperson for Carterton District Council said the water will be back on as soon as possible but they still recommended filling up containers before the outage. Appliances that use water should not be run during this period, including the hot water cylinder, because the cylinder can be damaged if the water levels drop too low. When the water services are restored, it is best to open a cold tap slowly and let it run for a minute or two to remove any air bubbles that may have entered the system, the spokesperson said. “Air can cause the water to turn a milky colour, but this will not affect the taste and should clear quickly.”

Planned outage

Powerco is replacing a pole in Masterton today, which might impact the power connection to 442 houses on Mataikona Rd between 8.45 and 3pm. The work is predicted to take just over six hours. There is also work happening on Solway Crescent between 9am and 2pm today, which is only expected to affect four properties.
