Spot fires
Crews from Martinborough, Greytown, and Tora fire stations responded to a vegetation fire in Ruakōkoputuna yesterday just before 4pm. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said that upon arrival, crews found a “smouldering pile of slash and soil” that measured 20 meters by 30 meters in area and was causing some spot fires. The crews dampened the fire but are working with the landowner to completely extinguish it in the next few days.
Autumn appeal
Masterton District Council [MDC] is asking people to share photos of the district’s autumnal colours. People who are out and about and taking photos of the town and wider area this week are asked to tag MDC in any resulting social media posts. An MDC Facebook post said there are many homesick Mastertonians who follow the account, and they love seeing photos of home. Photos can be added to the comments on the Facebook post or tag the council@mastertondc or on Instagram.
Clarification
A story published on Wednesday titled ‘Another proposal puts wind up locals’ reported that Malaysia-based Yinson Renewables intends to use the fast-track consent process under the Natural and Built Environment Act 2023 in the “next few weeks”, with the goal of achieving full consent by August 2024. However, the first step involves a referral application, which Yinson aims to lodge soon. If accepted, the project will be referred to the fast-track process, and a Resource Consent Application will be lodged in August, 2024.
