Water shutdown
The Belvedere Rd, Carterton water shutdown originally planned for earlier in the month will now take place this Sunday, October 1. Carterton District Council will be testing water valves around town after a leak was found on Belvedere Rd. The work will start on site at 7.30am and the shutdown will happen after 10am and will be turned back on by 5pm. CDC recommends Belvedere Rd residents prepare now for the shutdown by storing emergency water.
Lansdowne fire
Fire Emergency Services [Fenz] responded to reports of a chimney fire in Lansdowne, Masterton at 9.45pm on Tuesday. A Fenz spokesperson said that the fire was put out upon the Masterton brigade’s arrival at the scene. The spokesperson confirmed that there were no injuries, and firefighters stayed at the scene for a short time to help with clean up and to ensure everything was safe before departing.
Response session
The Martinborough Community Emergency Hub Open Day and Response Practice is this Saturday, September 30. The two-hour session will show residents how to practice and help each other in an emergency. It will be at Waihinga Centre, 11am-1pm, 8 Texas St, Martinborough.
Squabble over parking space
Queen St, Masterton has been the site of a streetside squabble, with police being called to the incident. The involved parties drove away before police resources could be dispatched to help settle the spat over a much-coveted parking space.
New pups
In the middle of a nationwide half-price canine adoption sale, new puppies have recently arrived at the Masterton SPCA. The 50 per cent off offer continues until this weekend.
Church clean up
St Mary’s Church in Carterton is getting a tidy-up. Curious locals have been active on social media questioning the future of the site, but Times-Age can confirm any decisions regarding the church are yet to be confirmed and work being done on site is a clean-up only.
