Road work

There will be stop/go traffic controls in place today and tomorrow on SH2 near Mt Bruce from 7am to 7pm for resurfacing. From Sunday to Thursday nights, stop/go controls will be in place on SH2 near Ngaumutawa Rd from 7pm to 6am. Barrier installations along SH2 between Kiriwhakapapa and Mount Bruce will be done on Monday through to Friday between 7am and 4.30pm, with stop/go traffic controls.

Trains on track

MetLink and KiwiRail have both announced that between Monday, December 11 and Sunday, December 24 the Wairarapa line will run all train services on a regular timetable. Some bus replacements will commence after Christmas Day. Trains were delayed on the Wairarapa Line on Thursday afternoon for 15 minutes due to heat restrictions. As the rails are made from steel, they expand as they get hotter and this can cause misalignments.

Trust recipients

The five successful applicants to the Peter Laing Memorial Trust Grants, who received a total of $7000 between them, were announced on Thursday. The trust offers grants to Wairarapa people intending to follow a practical farming career and can be used to pay for practical training and specialist equipment. This year’s recipients are Zoe Bell [Greytown], William Billing [Masterton], Angus Jaspers [Martinborough], Jordan Miles [Eketahuna], and Ben Simpson [Masterton]. A longer article will be published next week.

Henley Lake
upgrade update

Masterton District Council’s [MDC] Henley Lake playground upgrade project received 66 online survey responses and 18 written submissions that have been collated alongside MDC Facebook page comments to identify a number of common themes. “It was great to see such a wide range of ages take the time to tell us their thoughts,” facilities and open spaces manager Ian Osland said. ”It was clear that creating an accessible, inclusive, and active space that reflects its natural setting is important to the community.” MDC will discuss the findings with members of the Masterton Host Waipoua Lions and Henley Trust before concept designs that reflect the community’s ideas are sought to help determine the cost of the upgrade.
