Santa parade
Masterton’s Queen St will be closed to all traffic today from midday to about 1.30pm while the Christmas Parade makes its way from the Countdown car park to the Farriers Bar and Eatery car park. The parade will be followed by the Christmas in the Park event at Queen Elizabeth Park.
Pools open
The seasonal Featherston, Greytown, and Martinborough pools of South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] are open for the summer from today until March 17, 2024, except for Christmas Day, when they’ll be closed. For information on opening hours, head to the SWDC website and look up ‘swimming pools’.

Waka Kotahi is starting work tomorrow night on SH2 south of Bidwills Cutting Rd and will have stop/go traffic controls for chip sealing. These traffic controls will be in place between 7pm and 5.30am, until Tuesday night. Works are also on from tomorrow night to Thursday night, 7pm to 5.30am, on SH2 in Carterton, with stop/go traffic controls for the transport agency’s raised pedestrian crossing project. Tomorrow to Thursday, there will also be an altered lane layout for waterworks on SH2 Carterton near Park Rd, during the day and night. From tomorrow night until Tuesday night, 7pm to 6am, the road will be closed on SH2 Waingawa, at the Norfolk and Cornwall roundabout, for chip sealing to take place. A detour will be signposted via local roads. North of Greytown near Ahikōuka Road from Tuesday to Thursday nights this week there will be stop/go traffic controls for chip sealing 7am-5.30am, followed by line marking from Wednesday to Friday, 5.30am to 7pm.

From tonight until Thursday, Waka Kotahi is carrying out a manhole installation near Donald St in Featherston. There will be an altered lane layout until Thursday, and also on Friday from 8am to5pm. Tomorrow, there will be stop/go traffic control for culvert and bridge maintenance at the Tauherenikau Bridge, from 7am to 4.30pm.
