Wairarapa
brigades busy
Wairarapa’s brigades have been busy over the past couple of days responding to a variety of medical and fire events. Featherston’s brigade was called to a chimney fire yesterday at 1pm. Chief fire officer Colin McKenna said the flue on the free-standing fire was “red hot” on arrival. “The place was extremely hot.” He said the brigade extinguished the fire without incident. On Wednesday Masterton’s brigade was called to assist police with an incident. Police said an ambulance was later called to the station to treat a man in relation to an assault where he received cuts to his hands. Masterton and Mauriceville brigades also responded to a scrub fire at Double Bridges in Opaki, later that day, extinguishing what was believed to be an out-of-control campfire. Meanwhile, Martinborough’s brigade responded to two medical emergencies in the space of 12 hours between Wednesday night and yesterday morning.
