Hill crash
Police received reports of a car that had rolled on SH2 Remutaka Hill at around 7.15am yesterday. A police spokesperson said that, shortly after the crash, an ambulance attended the scene to assess the single occupant, who did not receive any serious injuries. The lane heading towards Upper Hutt was partially blocked for a short while, but was reopened soon after. Enquiries into how the crash happened are ongoing.
Robbery on
Dixon St
Police received a report of a person who had their mobile phone stolen on Dixon St, Masterton at around 4.30pm yesterday. A spokesperson for police said that police were unable to locate the offender, who had fled the scene on foot with the mobile phone. No one was injured during the incident, and enquiries into the robbery are ongoing.
Monster raffle
The Masterton Lions Club has launched a ‘Monster Raffle’ to raise funds for the new Wellington Free Ambulance Wairarapa station. Many prizes are up for grabs, with the first prize of a brand new 2023 Ford Puma ST-Line Mild Hybrid, valued at $40,780 [courtesy of Fagan Motors], while the second prize is a Merida Expresso-CC400 EQ E-Bike worth $5299 [provided by Cycling Tom Bike Shop], and third prize is a Sleepmaker Arizona Bed Set valued at $4199 [courtesy of Newbolds]. Proceeds from the raffle will contribute to the $7 million needed to build a state-of-the-art facility that will house over 30 emergency response crew and provide shelter in the event of a civil emergency.
Roadworks ahead
Waka Kotahi will be completing repairs on patches of the central median wire rope barrier tonight. Detours will be in place for drivers heading south down Cornwall Rd to Hughes Line, just north of Carterton. Drivers heading north can continue using the highway, but Waka Kotahi urges drivers to be aware of any changes in traffic layout. The repairs come after a car collided with the central median barrier.
