Vehicle
off-fence
A vehicle on Rutland Rd yesterday veered off course, and subsequently went off the road and collided with a fence between Richmond Rd and Park Rd. The road was partially blocked after the incident, but the car was quickly towed away and the road was operating as normal soon after police responded. Police said there were no reports of any injuries.
Councils avoid
water plunge
Wairarapa’s councils have declined to dip their toes in a contest to identify New Zealand’s best-tasting tap water. Run by the Water Industry Operations Group of New Zealand, the competition invites the country’s municipal water suppliers to submit a sample of their finest drop to be subjected to a blind taste test and rated according to the “water tasting wheel”, which outlines some of the attributes that water professionals use when judging water, such as colour, clarity, odour, and taste.
Organisers said the national water taste test – sponsored by water treatment and chemical distributor Ixom – is a fun way to raise awareness of the quality of New Zealand’s drinking water and to recognise the efforts of local water operators and their teams to deliver valuable water services to their communities.
All three Wairarapa councils confirmed to the Times-Age that they’ve chosen not to enter the competition – the winner of which will be decided tomorrow – but did not clarify the reason for their decisions.
Outages in
Featherston
About 142 households experienced a power outage in Featherston yesterday, from 8.30am to 1.30pm. The outage was planned in order for Powerco to install new switchgear and affected areas included Donald St, Waite St, Hardie Grove, McKerrow Place and Woodward St East. Residents should prepare for more outages today and tomorrow, because other works are taking place for asset maintenance and to replace a conductor.
These scheduled works will take place today from 8.30am to 5pm and tomorrow from 9.30am to 5pm.
