Pedal power
Over the weekend, Metlink advised cyclists that it was best to leave their bikes at home, if possible, while it completed maintenance on the luggage carriage. Until the maintenance is complete, weekend trains will be able to carry a maximum of 12 bikes per service, not including luggage. Metlink said it would notify users as soon as the extra luggage weekend service was back in action. In the meantime, the 13th cyclist to arrive at the train station might need to get pedalling.
Car crash
Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Main St Greytown shortly before midday yesterday. No injuries or road closures were reported. Police said there was broken glass on the road, but traffic continued to drive over it. Police also responded to a crash in Lansdowne on Saturday afternoon.
New dog tags move to metal
Carterton dogs are set to get some new bling, with Carterton District Council switching out plastic dog tags for metal ones. While the old plastic tags only lasted a year, each metal tag will have one metal tag for life, with a QR code that holds all your dog’s and your contact details, which the council said would allow anyone who finds a dog to contact the owner directly without having to contact animal control or post “is this your dog?” messages on social media.
Wet week ahead
Metservice is predicting a wet week ahead, with showers forecast every day until Sunday, with the exception of Wednesday. Today, scattered showers are forecast with possible thunderstorms and hail south of Masterton from the afternoon. Wednesday is forecast to be fine before heavier rain sets in for the weekend.
Another pizza place opening
