Tararua rescue

A Life Flight helicopter has successfully pulled an injured tramper out of the Tararua Range. The tramper, who was visiting Alpha Hut in the Tararua Forest Park, is understood to have suffered an injury on Tuesday that left them unable to walk out. Emergency services said a rescue attempt was made on Tuesday but was postponed due to cloudy weather conditions impacting visibility. A land search and rescue team was sent in overnight, and yesterday emergency services waited for the weather to clear before the tramper was successfully flown out. A spokesperson for Life Flight said the rescue operation had gone smoothly and the team were “happy to get the job done”. It was believed the tramper would make a full recovery.

Police responded to a crash yesterday morning along Marchant Rd in the Tararua Forest Park involving two cars, one with a trailer attached at the back. Police said the collision, reported at 9.45am, involved one car hitting the trailer attached to the second vehicle while passing. Police said no road closures or injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
