Crash and gone

Emergency services responded to a call at 10.15pm on Monday night on Skeets Rd in Masterton. Police said the call was regarding a minor crash, and no injuries were reported. A spokesperson from Fire and Emergency Services said a car had crashed into a fence, but when emergency services arrived, there were no drivers or passengers to be seen. The car was left abandoned for the night, but in the morning, there was no sign of it.

Featherston meeting

In response to community feedback surrounding recent council issues in South Wairarapa, Featherston councillor Rebecca Gray said there is an informal forum tonight. The meeting will be at the Featherston Community Centre, at 7.30pm and if there is enough interest, another might be held next week too. Tonight’s forum is for open dialogue and feedback but isn’t an official Community Board or South Wairarapa District Council meeting. Other elected representatives who will be present include Tui Rutherford and Deputy Mayor for South Wairarapa Melissa Sadler-Futter. Gray also said she will also be at the local vegetable markets on Saturday morning and available to talk and provide submission forms about new proposed library hours.

Oaks for the chop

Masterton District Council has said that two large oak trees are scheduled to be removed from Kummer Crescent today. Both trees have been assessed by a qualified arborist who has concluded that they both pose a risk of failure. Council Parks and Reserves Advisor Odell Sugure said while it is sad to remove mature trees that have provided shade and biodiversity, and absorbed carbon dioxide, the council is replanting trees throughout open spaces.
