Planned outages

Powerco has planned outages lined up this week. The first is scheduled for tomorrow, at 9.30am for Te Whiti Rd, Caveland Rd, and Martinborough Masterton Rd. Powerco said 48 houses will be affected by the works, which are for maintenance and are set to go until 4pm. There is also tree trimming taking place between 9.15am-3pm tomorrow, which Powerco said will affect 23 properties along Adams Peak Rd and Masterton Castlepoint Rd. Also tomorrow, works to replace a cross-arm between 9.30am-2.30pm, affecting 11 properties on Mangamahoe Central Rd, Masterton. On Thursday, 16 houses on Settlement Rd, SH52 and Route 52, Masterton will be affected between 9.30am-2pm.

Public meeting

National Party deputy leader Nicola Willis and National candidate Mike Butterick are hosting a public meeting tonight at Lakeview School Hall, starting at 7pm. Butterick is contesting the Wairarapa electorate in October’s general election, running against incumbent Kieran McAnulty for the Labour Party and Celia Wade-Brown for the Green Party.

Seeing the light

Central Carterton is experiencing street light outages, which the council has said contractors are continuing to repair. Community members have reported faults on Pembroke St, Callister Place, Victoria St, Rexwood St, McKenzie Tce, Garrison St, and Augustus St in the past week. The council said a suspected underground cable fault has been found on Callister Place, which has now been isolated and attended to by crews.

Doggy rulebook

South Wairarapa District Council is taking feedback on the rules for dogs in the district. The Control of Dogs Policy and Bylaw was last reviewed in 2018 and covers issues including where dogs can go, where they are allowed off-leash, dog exercise areas, beach, coastal and camping access rules, and regulations for nuisance and dangerous dogs. The deadline for submissions is July 23.

Wackrow Award

The Dannevirke Community Board have opened nominations for the Wackrow Memorial Youth Award. Nominees must be between the ages of 14 to 19, involved with activities in the Dannevirke District, and live in the North Tararua Ward. Applications close on Monday 31 July 2023.
