at Trust House
Masterton’s Trust House Aquatic Centre has free entry on Wednesday this week as part of a community day with swim-lesson enterprise Splashsave. Everyone is encouraged to go and have fun and let the little ones learn how to be safe in the water. Also available are free Splashsave parent packs. This community day is run in conjunction with Water Safety New Zealand to promote the under-5 drowning prevention strategy Wai Ora 2025. The lessons are between 12pm and 5pm..

Police received reports of a blockage on Western Lake Rd on Saturday at 10.15pm. On further investigation, the blockage appeared to be a water tank on the northbound lane. Police said its origin was unconfirmed, but it appeared to have possibly been blown over by wind and come from one of the nearby properties. It was partially blocking one lane on the highway for a time, but police confirmed this was soon resolved.
Wind warning for region
Metservice has issued a wind warning to several North Island regions, including Wairarapa, expected this afternoon and evening. The strong wind watch is forecast to start at around noon, and last to 7pm. Metservice said west-to-southwest winds may approach severe gale in the exposed districts and that the Tararua District and coastal areas might be especially vulnerable. Otherwise, the weather this week over the region is mostly fine with a few showers today and tomorrow before clearing up through to Friday. Rain is forecast for the weekend, with heavier periods on Saturday, before easing to lighter showers on Sunday.
Dogwash open for business
A new dog wash machine has been installed at Carterton’s Sparks Park and is officially open for any pups needing a rinse-off or a wash before the journey home. A wash cycle through the machine costs $12 either with cash or a card. This provides 10 minutes for a rinse and, if needed, a shampoo, condition, flea treatment or blow dry.
