Collision in Cockburn
Masterton police received reports of a car that had collided with a parked car on Cockburn St at 10.45am yesterday. Police responded to the incident soon after receiving the reports and said the vehicle responsible drove away before police got to the scene. No one was injured.
Mystery bus trip for blokes
Wairarapa Rural Support Trust, in conjunction with other sponsors, is holding a ‘Blokes Mystery Bus Trip’ on July 29 from 11.30–9pm. Minibus transport will depart and return from various locations around the Tinui and Whareama/Homewood districts. It’s billed as the perfect chance for blokes to step off the farm and indulge in good food, drinks, and quality banter. There is no charge for this event. Masterton District Council [MDC] want to remind residents that if they see anything that needs sorting, to make sure the right people get all the details. You can do this by reporting it on the Antenno app, reporting it on the MDC website by searching ‘Report a problem’ or calling the council on 06 370 6300 or on 06 378 7752 after hours.
New Metlink fares soon
Metlink will be rolling out new fares for children and young adults on September 1. As part of the government’s Budget 2023 announcements, the fares will replace the current half-price fares that have been in place since April 1, 2022. From September 1, children under five will continue to be able to travel free without a Snapper card, children aged 5-12 will also have free travel after they apply for the new fare on their Snapper card, children 13-18 years or still at secondary school will continue to receive a 75 per cent discount to the standard adult fare with no changes required, and young adults 19-24 years will get 50 per cent off fares when they apply for the new fare on their Snapper card. Fares for passengers aged over 25 years who do not qualify for any other concessions will revert to full price.
