Carterton Matariki event
To celebrate Matariki, Carterton District Council [CDC] has issued a reminder about today’s free tree planting event at Ngā Tāwhai Reserve from 10 am to 12 pm. CDC has been working over the past 12 months to restore the mana of Ngā Tāwhai Reserve on Ngatawhai Road, Te Wharau. The area has been underutilised and inaccessible to the public. But CDC wants to change this and has therefore invited the community to take part in this tree planting event for Matariki. Buses will leave Carterton Events Centre at 8.30 am and leave the reserve at 12 pm. Registration for the free buses is needed. Access to the reserve via private vehicle is not allowed. Registration at cdc.govt.nz/matariki2023 or https://www.surveylegend.com/s/51jp.

As it is a busy intersection with New World supermarket nearby, an exact time has not yet been decided. Further updates on scheduling will be posted on CDC’s Facebook page next week. Repairs for the Phillip St/High St intersection are set for Monday 17 July. This might require a water shutdown any time between 9 am to 5 pm. The shutdown will affect 442–434 High St South and 1–40 Philip St.
