Logging crash

Police received a report of a trailer that had come away from a truck near the intersection with Phillips Line near Tauherenikau yesterday at 6.30am. The road was closed from 7.45am until 10.25am, according to Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency. “The trailer on the truck rolled, and the logs came off and scattered themselves across the road,” Featherston’s chief fire officer Collin McKenna told the Times-Age. A person aware of the emergency response said the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. McKenna confirmed that there were no injuries and the truck was not damaged. A Worksafe spokesperson said they had not been notified at this stage.

Healthier homes

Free health assessment toolkits are available from the Masterton, Carterton, and Greytown libraries for those who want to assess their homes for moisture, leaks, and draughts. Lotto winners

Some lucky locals won second division Lotto in Wednesday’s draw. Two local ticketholders won $21,75; one bought a ticket from Kuripuni Lotto and Post Shop in Masterton, and another purchased theirs from Pak’nSave Masteron. The two Masterton winners among 25 second division winners. Lottos said three players [from Hamilton, Timaru, and Gore] also won Powerball Second Division, taking their total winnings to $34,997, while one Christchurch players scooped $33.5 million with Powerball First Division.

Library hours

Following the approval of council annual plans, libraries in South Wairarapa and Carterton have new operating hours. Wairarapa Library Service said Carterton Library will be open from 9.30am-5pm Monday to Friday, and 9.30am-1pm on Saturday. Featherston Library will now only open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9.30am-5pm. Martinborough Library will open on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9.30am-5pm, and every second Saturday from 9.30am-1pm. Greytown Town Hall and Library will now open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9.30am-5pm, and every second Saturday from 9.30am-1pm.
