Incident at Pinnacles
Life Flight has responded to an incident at the Pinnacles Track in Cape Palliser. Emergency services, including ambulance and Ngawi and Martinborough fire brigades, responded to a medical event at the famous South Wairarapa walk shortly after 4pm yesterday. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called, and one patient transported to Wellington Hospital.
New lifejackets
Masterton District Council will be hosting an Old4New Lifejacket Upgrade session on Friday from 10am-2pm at the Masterton Town Square. The council said the Old4New Lifejacket Upgrade was one of the coastguard’s leading water safety initiatives, which aimed to remove as many ill-fitting, damaged, and old lifejackets from circulation. People will have the opportunity to trade in their old lifejackets for a discount on a range of new, fit-for-purpose Hutchwilco lifejackets.
Police pick-up
Police officers have picked up two young people allegedly damaging property on Makoura Rd. Police responded to a report of wilful damage on the Masterton road shortly after 8pm on Monday night. Police said the officers spoke to the youths and ended up taking them home.
Streetfood festival
The Riversdale Beach streetfood festival kicks off tomorrow evening at Basil Bodle Reserve. A selection of food and music will be on offer from 5pm, but festival-goers can also bring their own kai and park up with a picnic blanket.
View Point walk
A fundraising walk or bike to View Point Hill on January 14 is being held for the Riversdale Beach Surf Life Saving Club and Lifeflight Trust. The walk is about 3km each way, 293 metres above sea level, and it will take an hour walk to get to the top. Bikers can return through an alternative loop ride on the logging road plus some of Homewood and Riversdale Roads back to the beach. The View Point Walk will be on Pohatu and Orui Stations. Drive and park or walk to the starting point at 255 Orui Rd, Riversdale Beach. Organisers will be taking payments at the gate before the walk.
