Round the Vines
Road closures will be in place tomorrow for the annual Round the Vines fun run and wine tasting event. The Square and Oxford St intersection in Martinborough will be closed off for the event from 7am to 4pm. During this closure period vehicles will need to take the alternate route as advised by the South Wairarapa District Council: from the Square, turn left onto Texas St, right on to Cork St, right back on to Kansas St, and back on to the Square.
Fresh chip seal
Waka Kotahi is reminding motorists of the correct way to drive on freshly laid chip seal as state highway maintenance gets underway. New chip seal will be laid on stretches of SH2 north of Masterton at Opaki and near Lennies Rd, north of Featherston, south of Greytown, and in Kaitoke. Regional manager of the lower North Island Mark Owen said it is essential that drivers follow speed limits while driving on these roads when they are resurfaced. “If you drive too fast, you will damage the road surface, meaning the work has to be redone – creating even more travel delays. You also risk flicking stone chips and damaging other vehicles,” he said. But driving too slowly can cause the new seal to stick to vehicles, and “trust me, having bitumen and road chips on your car is not something you want to happen”.
Combined plan
A reminder that a drop-in session about the Wairarapa Combined District Plan [WCDP] is being held tomorrow at Waiata House, 27 Lincoln Rd, Masterton between 10am and 1pm. The session gives people the opportunity to speak with the WCDP planning team, but if you can’t make tomorrow’s session there will be further drop-ins held in the coming weeks before submissions close on December 19 at 5pm.
Mount Bruce changes
The safety improvements and general roadworks on SH2 to Mount Bruce have had some schedule changes. Instead of running two concurrent projects, Waka Kotahi have combined them to minimise disruption for motorists. The works will now be carried out between November 6 and November 21, between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday.
