Heating up

Wairarapa’s fire crews have been kept busy over the past couple of days, with a large number of callouts. Two fire trucks from Masterton responded to a kitchen fire at 6.38pm on Wednesday, followed by an early morning callout to a bark fire in Waingawa shortly after 4am yesterday. In South Wairarapa yesterday, fire crews received a call at Lake Ferry. Two fire trucks responded to a flaming pile of driftwood at 11.53am, but departed within the hour.

Opening
postponed

Aratoi Museum’s summer exhibition opening has been postponed. The Summer Joint Exhibition opening scheduled for tonight, and a talk from artist Leah Creaven were both postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Aratoi said it would schedule a new date for the opening early next year. The museum will remain open to the public this weekend.

Christmas
parade

Christmas comes to Masterton tomorrow between 12.30-2pm. The Masterton Christmas parade will set off from Dixon St and Worksop Rd, before heading down Memorial Drive, and ending at Queen Elizabeth Park. The park will also play host to a Christmas market selling crafts and food.

Road closure

Featherston’s Christmas parade will see State Highway 2 closed tomorrow between State Highway 53 and Waite St for an hour from midday. Waka Kotahi NZTA warned motorists to expect delays between noon and 1pm. The parade will begin at Daniel St and finish at the Squircle.

Easter Sunday
Trading Policy

Consultation on the Easter Sunday Trading Policy closes on Monday, December 12. Masterton District Council said the policy currently allows all shops in Masterton to trade on Easter Sunday should they wish to. “We’re inviting community feedback on whether we should continue, change or revoke the policy,” the council said. Submissions can be made via the council website.
