Siren symphony
Local social media lit up on Friday afternoon with multiple reports of and queries about what appeared to be a large proportion of the region’s emergency services dashing to South Wairarapa. Police confirmed that one person received moderate injuries after being struck by a falling tree on private farmland near Kahutara. Police said the person was transported to Masterton Hospital by ambulance. Fire emergency services also attended, and a rescue helicopter was deployed but then told to turn around once it was determined it was not required.
Backing
up the bus
In a story in yesterday’s paper about a rolled logging truck blocking the southbound lane of SH2 for more than an hour on Thursday afternoon, it was noted that “one southbound bus reportedly tried to reverse back to the Wiltons Rd roundabout to escape the jam”. It turns out that this observation by a bystander was incorrect – as noted by the driver of the bus in question, the vehicle was stuck in the northbound lane [“a south bound bus would not be required to reverse to Wiltons Road as it would have been facing that direction”] and at no time did he try to back up the bus.
Vineyard path rules reminder
Palliser Estate has issued a “gentle but firm” reminder that its Vineyard Walk through the Woolshed Vineyard is off limits to the public when the closed sign is up due to being outside of opening hours, spraying, or machinery being in use. “We would hate to have to restrict public access to the walk due to the behaviour of just a handful of people who ignore the signs and cause a health and safety issue.”
