Police received reports of wilful damage at a residential address on Hillcrest St, Solway, at 8.15am yesterday. Police said that initial reports suggested a door was damaged. Weird smell

Fire and emergency [Fenz] crews responded to a gas smell in Martinborough’s Pain and Kershaw 4Square Supermarket at 7.30am on Sunday. A Fenz spokesperson said the gas detector didn’t pick anything up but there was definitely a weird smell that could have been sewage or something decomposing in a drain.

Union meeting

Buses will be replacing train services on Thursday, from 9am-3pm, during a rail union meeting. “This is an important meeting for our staff, and we support their attendance,” a Metlink spokesperson said. The bus replacement services take longer than normal rail services, and all commuters should allow extra travel time.

Library hours

South Wairarapa District’s new library hours are in place, pending a review of library services by the council. The interim schedule follows strong public feedback after library hours were restricted last month after budget cuts to staffing for the service. The interim schedule will see the libraries in Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough open all day on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and half days on Saturday.
