Road rage
Police were alerted to an assault on Miro St, Lansdowne, at 9.45am yesterday. A member of the public sighted what appeared to be a person hitting another person in their vehicle. Enquiries are ongoing.
Bridge
maintenance
SH53 at the Tauherenikau River bridge will be closed for repairs and maintenance tomorrow. Weather permitting, the closure will be between 8:30pm Sunday night and 4:30am Monday morning. Vehicles travelling to Martinborough can detour via Camp Rd, SH2 and No.1 Line back to SH53. The opposite route applies to people heading to Featherston.
Delays from slip
Drivers were delayed after a slip blocked SH2 Remutaka Hill Rd about two km south of the summit. Waka Kotahi were alerted to the slip at 11.30am yesterday. One lane of traffic was closed, and stop-go traffic management was in place while contractors cleared debris.
Dog wash
Carterton District Council has been approached by an external operator wanting to install a dog wash station at Sparks Park. A report to the council said this would be a user-pays system located next to the toilet block. The facility would be operated and maintained by the owner, who would pay a council fee to occupy the site. “This will also create a job opportunity for a local to regularly check and top up the cleaning supplies,” the report said. – NZLDR
Solar power
Greater Wellington Regional Council voted to use Low Carbon Acceleration Fund money to power up Masterton Train Station using the sun. A recommendation from the Climate Committee to install solar panels on the station’s roof was adopted during Thursday’s full council meeting. The project will also be used as a trial for future solar power generation on other station roofs. The cost of the project is set to be $266,651.
