Widespread
snow forecast

Due to the chilly temperatures hitting New Zealand this week, MetService has issued a snow warning for multiple areas including the Remutaka Hill Rd [SH2]. MetService said snow is forecast to reach as low as 400 metres from 5am today, with 4-6cm expected to settle on the road, and further snow showers above the summit are possible this afternoon and evening. Snow is forecast into early tomorrow, with Remutaka Hill expecting 1-2cm of snow per hour this morning. It is possible the hill road may need to be closed. Snow is also expected on the road at Mount Bruce, with as much as 20cm or more falling through the ranges.

Cycleway parked

Masterton District Council [MDC] will investigate an alternative route for the proposed Eastside link cycleway between Lansdowne and Kuripuni, down Johnstone St, Mākoura Rd, and Kuripuni St. MDC decided at an extraordinary meeting yesterday not to proceed with the proposed route along Colombo Rd and Herbert St. The Transport Choices project will be funded through the Climate Emergency Response Fund administered by Waka Kotahi. It will need to approve the change of route and be asked to consider linking the cycleway with recreational trails. MDC will make a final decision on the project at its meeting on September 13.
