Wind, rain, sleet and snow

The region’s wild weather isn’t over yet, much like the rest of New Zealand. MetService has extended the strong wind watch and said gusts may approach severe gale in exposed places and be felt around and south of Featherston, lasting until 9am today. The heavy swell warning also continues, with the southerly combined waves rising to 6 metres last night, easing below warning criteria by midday today. Wairarapa has also been issued a heavy snow watch and road snowfall warning from MetService, with snow forecast to fall lower than 500 metres last night and even further to 400 metres early this morning. Remutaka Hill is included, and MetService said to expect 4-5cm of snow on the road near the summit, with lesser amounts down to 400 metres. Snowfall could be heavy at times above 500 metres, where accumulations may approach warning criteria.

Two-car collision

Masterton police responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash at 1.15pm yesterday. Police said the crash happened at the intersection of Chapel St and Renall St. They confirmed that there were no injuries and the road was not blocked.

Moving back to YouTube

There is no longer a need to hunt around for Masterton District Council’s [MDC] livestreams as they have now decided to move all their steaming back to YouTube. To find all MDC’s council and committee meetings online, see their YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/@MastertonDC.

SPCA offers a Snip n Chip

Animal rescue organisation SPCA is launching a new campaign titled Snip n Chip to make it easier for cat owners who are struggling with the cost of desexing and microchipping. SPCA is working with local participating vet clinics offering this service and vouchers are available for $30. A limited amount of these will be available to those who require financial assistance. Bookings are now open on https://book.spcadesexing.nz/ where you can find out if you’re eligible and can register. If you know someone who needs help with the online system, you can register on their behalf.
