price changes
From today, the price of buying a Times-Age from retail outlets will increase to $2.20 [Monday to Friday] and to $2.50 on Saturday. The price rise follows an increase in the cost of newsprint.
Weather outlook
Metservice meteorologist Thapi Makgabutlane said yesterday that weather for Wairarapa over the coming week looks settled, apart from a front expected to move through today, bringing a bout of showery weather and a cool southerly wind change. The region should remain dry between Tuesday and Thursday, with scattered showers over the Tararua Ranges. Thursday could bring gusty winds. Looking ahead to the weekend, although Friday is a way off, early indications were the region could see a few showers and slightly cooler temperatures at the start of the long weekend.
Disorderly behaviour
Police responded to reports of someone playing on the roof of a building in Martinborough at about 6 pm on Saturday evening. Police spoke with those involved, and there were no reports of further action being taken.
Dangerous driving
Police investigated an allegation of dangerous driving and antisocial road user behaviour on Dixon St in Masterton at about 5 pm on Saturday afternoon. Police did not pursue the individual involved, citing safety concerns.
Library closures
Martinborough library will close today at 4 pm for council staff training. All Wairarapa Library Service branches will be shut on Friday, Sunday and Monday, but they will be open on Saturday.
Free recycling
Carterton District Council offers free recycling at the recycling section of the Dalefield transfer station. The recycling section is open Monday to Friday between 9 am and 11 am, Saturdays between 9 am and midday, and Sundays from 11 am to 4.30 pm. A wide range of recycling options are available, including glass, cardboard and plastics. The service is free, as long as people bring clean, sorted stuff to the station.
