Ahead of the impacts of ex-tropical Cyclone Gabrielle, Carterton District Council has published emergency information. For surface flooding on roads, slips, or drinking water and wastewater issues [including after hours] phone 06 379 4030 or log a service request at cdc.govt.nz/service-request. Issues with power lines can be reported at 0800 769 372, for electricity issues, 0800 272727; and river and stream hazards reported at 0800 496 7343. For fire or immediate threat to life, people should call 111.

www.getready.govt.nz has tips on how to make a household emergency plan, emergency supplies needed, and what to do to prepare for a storm, such as clearing drains and gutters, and tying down loose structures such as trampolines and outdoor furniture. Thefts in
Masterton
Police responded to multiple reports of theft in Masterton over the weekend. A burglary was reported at a residential property on Balance Street shortly after 8am on Saturday. Later that day, at about 5pm, Police attended a suspected shoplifting incident at a commercial property on Queen St. Enquiries into both incidents are ongoing.
Wheels park
Work is set to begin on the Greytown Wheels Park. A preferred provider has been chosen, and South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] is expected to enter into a contract so construction can begin. The Wheels Park has been proposed for many years to fill a gap in recreational facilities for older children and families. SWDC has set aside one million dollars for the first stage of the work, with future stages expected to be community funded.

The 2023 Census is on March 7. An online code will be available or forms will be in mailboxes or at doors soon.
