Masterton water shutdown
An emergency water shutdown in Masterton yesterday caused the water system to be temporarily shut off. Masterton District Council announced the shutdown saying contractor City Care had called for it. The event was expected to affect the whole of Rugby St. The water supply was expected to be back on by early yesterday afternoon.
Free health check day
The Pasifika o Wairarapa Trust will be hosting a free health check day tomorrow between 10am-2pm for all seniors in Wairarapa at 23 Intermediate St in Masterton. Masterton District Council is supporting the event. The council’s neighbourhood support coordinator, Cathy Cameron, will be there to talk with people about the work she does with local communities.
Paintball shots fired
A woman strolling down Perry St in Masterton yesterday was the unlucky target of someone’s paintball gun being fired from a passing car. Police confirmed the woman was struck by the paintball pellet and received a minor leg injury. Due to a delayed response in reporting the incident, police said they were unable to locate the sharp-eyed offender.
Wind watch
According to MetService, Wairarapa is included in a strong wind watch today where south to southwest winds may approach severe gale in exposed places overnight. Areas of concern include Wairarapa south of Featherston, Wellington and the Kaikōura coast. MetService said the strong winds will start from 9pm, and should die down by 6am tomorrow morning.
Good in the hood
Z Energy [Z] has put a call out for local charities and community groups to apply for its Good in the Hood programme. Of the groups who apply, each Z service station will choose four to participate in a customer voting system. Up to $4000 will be distributed between the groups, taking into account the number of customer votes received by each one.
