Pavement work
South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] has advised Fulton Hogan is working on pavement stabilising repairs on sealed roads across the district. The work will continue through to mid-December. SWDC advised temporary speed restrictions could be in place while the pavement cures and the sites are chip-sealed.
Tararua water woes continue
Pahiatua’s treated water supply continues to be an issue after the treatment plant required repairs earlier this week. The focus is “now on replenishing the reservoir, which remains critically low”, Tararua District Council [TDC] announced yesterday. In the event of the water treatment plant requiring a total shutdown, there is currently only a day and a half of treated water left. The town’s population of 2700 uses an average of 1.3 million litres per day, but despite TDC having called for residents to conserve water, only a 2.1 per cent reduction has been achieved so far. A “total outdoor ban” on using sprinklers, soak hoses, irrigation systems, garden hoses, water blasters, and washing vehicles, boats, and buildings remains in place, as does a request for residents to report any water leaks in streets and public spaces. Regular updates are available via TDC’s Facebook page.
Check reminder
Masterton District Council is reminding people to clear away dead, damaged, overgrown, and dying branches. MDC asked on its Facebook page for residents to check that trees and other foliage are not growing over footpaths and other public spaces. Trees should be cut back to the boundary and hang no lower than 2.7m. People who have trees with branches near power lines can contact Powerco on 0800 769 372 for a list of contractors who can do the work safely.
Te Wharau open
