LTP underway

South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] has started next year’s Long-term Planning [LTP] process with a public workshop on Wednesday. The forum was led by councillor Rebecca Gray. The LTP sets strategic direction over 10 years. This was one of the first opportunities for the public to hear about the district’s challenges, opportunities, and areas of focus. “We are excited and looking forward to engaging with the community,” Gray said. “This is an important opportunity for all of us to help shape the direction of our region. LTP is about outcomes, about making South Wairarapa a better place to live, work, and play. We hope our communities will seize the opportunity over the coming months to participate and to share their views.” SWDC officers will now consider the issues raised at the forum. More information about upcoming consultations at swdc.govt.nz.

Queen St theft

Masterton police responded to reports of shoplifting on Queen St at around 11.10am yesterday. A police spokesperson said one person was taken into custody and that enquiries are ongoing.

Recycling update

Masterton District Council has updated their online information on the three rubbish and recycling transfer stations in the district. This includes information on what you can and can’t bring, as well as new information about battery recycling. Head to mstn.govt.nz and search ‘Rubbish, Recycling and Waste’ for further information.

‘Seeing’ red

Although Wairarapa was one of the locations destined to host ‘Sensing Murder’ star Kelvin Cruikshank, fate has had other plans for the celebrity medium. In a video uploaded to Facebook, Cruickshank shared his dismay at having to cancel upcoming shows in the South Island and reschedule others at various North Island spots – including Masterton. Cruickshank said the change in plans was due to a logistics error, stating another medium had made venues agree to prohibit other mediums from using the space within a six-week parameter. This other medium was not named, but former ‘Sensing Murder’ host Sue Nicholson has hit back on Facebook, stating it is not the medium’s clause, but the decision of the venue.
