Update on

missing man

Search and rescue crews with cadaver dogs were deployed in the Mt Holdsworth area yesterday, in the search for Michael MacGregor – also known as Michael Namana. MacGregor was last seen three and a half weeks ago at Rocky Lookout on July 31 at 12.20pm. Police and volunteers conducted a wide-ranging search and rescue mission that police paused on August 9. Anyone who may have seen MacGregor or has any information on his whereabouts can call 111, quoting event number P055522968.

Eketāhuna glass

Tararua District Council [TDC] recycling centre had a glass bin from Eketāhuna dropped off earlier this week that was highly contaminated with rubbish. While working to remove the rubbish from the glass, staff found a syringe. A TDC spokesperson said it was time-consuming to remove the contamination and the process posed major health and safety risks. “This behaviour costs everyone in Tararua because the load cannot be recycled in such a contaminated condition.”

roadworks

Storm recovery roadworks will be happening on Te Ore Ore-Bideford Rd and Masterton-Castlepoint Rd tomorrow from 7am until 4pm. Traffic will be managed by traffic lights or manual traffic controllers. Masterton District Council said the Saturday roadworks are being added to keep on top of the storm recovery programme because bad weather has slowed progress.

Bride of the year

The Wairarapa Bride of the Year awards starts tomorrow night. Funds raised through ticket sales will go towards Wairarapa Plunket. The show starts at 7pm at the Carterton Events Centre, with the doors opening from 6.15pm.

Poo problem

Carterton District Council’s [CDC] communications team and Mayor Ron Mark were busy yesterday delivering posters to shops and chatting with retailers about the dog poo problem in Carterton. CDC has put posters up asking people to pick up their dog’s poo and warning them that there are cameras operating in the area. The council has also installed a poo bag dispenser on the corner of High St near Huha.
