Carterton District Council is hosting a panel event tonight on climate change with local experts speaking on green energy, sustainable farming, transport opportunities, and global warming’s impact on mental health. The event is free to attend at the Carterton Events Centre Auditorium, and doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
Funding closing
Funding closes for round one of Masterton District Council’s Creative Communities Scheme tomorrow at 4.30pm. The funding scheme encourages community involvement, celebrates cultural diversity, and encourages young people to participate in arts activities. Applications can be made for things like exhibitions, workshops, personnel costs associated with short-term projects, artist development, arts promotion, and community participation. Disorder
Masterton police received reports of a disorder on Banister St, Masterton at 4.30pm on Tuesday afternoon. One person was taken into custody. A police spokesperson said that they were unable to confirm what the disorder was. Enquiries are ongoing.
Discount fares
Metlink fares are changing back to full price from September 1, but you can still get half-price fares if you’re under 25. Starting this Saturday, Metlink is launching an online portal for under-25s to load the youth concession onto their Snapper card. The 50 per cent off concession must be loaded onto a card and renewed each year. Fares for under-13s, with green Snapper cards, will be free. The government funded half-price fares on public transport nationwide from April 2022 until June 2023.
Māori wards
Pae Tū Mōkai o Tauira invites those interested in Māori wards to attend their Q&A session today at 23 North Soldiers Settlement Rd, Featherston from 6-8pm. Before councils make a final decision about whether or not to have Māori wards in their district, they would like to engage with their Māori communities to understand their thoughts and perspectives.
