Whether you’ve decided to be multi-slacking or multi-tasking this weekend, there is plenty to do in the region for everyone.
Light and Space
Some may define ‘sculpture’ as three-dimensional and made of stone, metal, clay or wood – carved, cast or modelled.
Forget all that you ever knew about the word sculpture. Let Aratoi blow you away with a range of enlarged materials, technologies and sites to redefine and challenge your initial idea of what a sculpture is.
Light and Space presents a diverse range of sculptures from the Aratoi Collection.
Some of the sculptures on display in the courtyard and foyer may have already been seen before, but some brand
new sculptures will be in the
mix too.
Today and tomorrow, 10am – 4pm, Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, 12 Bruce St, Masterton.
Staff Picks
And that’s not all; Aratoi will also be hosting a ‘Choice: Staff Picks from the Collection’ event this weekend.
Each staff member at Aratoi has been asked to choose an object from the collection that has spoken to them.
This can be anything from a model ship or stuffed kiwi to clothes brushes.
Today and tomorrow, 10am, Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, 12 Bruce St, Masterton.
Wetland Planting
The Ruamāhanga Mauri oho and the South Wairarapa Biodiversity Group have organised a Wetland Restoration Planting day for all ages – with no experience needed.
Get your hands dirty planting trees and grasses in an oxbow – which was once a bend in the Ruamāhanga river – while also learning about how the river’s meanderings were shaped.
Gardening tools, eco-sourced plants and refreshments will also be provided.
Don’t hold back, RSVP to [email protected], and you will receive detailed instructions on how to find them.
Tomorrow, 10am, Ruamāhanga Farm, 1415 State Highway 53, Martinborough.
