Deadline for wellbeing grants
The deadline for applying for community wellbeing grants is fast approaching. MDC is on the hunt for organisations taking an active role in building for the future and improving community wellbeing. If your organisation is doing great things to improve the wellbeing of the Masterton community, MDC is interested in hearing more. Community wellbeing grants are for the funding year July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024. Applications close next Monday, July 31, at 4.30 pm. More info at www.mstn.govt.nz.
Exclusive meeting
South Wairarapa District Council is holding an extraordinary meeting today at 1.30pm at the Waihenga Centre in Martinborough. The meeting is being held with the public excluded. No further details were provided.
Road closure
Blairlogie-Langdale Road in Masterton will be closed from today until Friday between 8.30am – 3pm. Masterton District Council said the closure is necessary so storm damage repairs can take place, and that school buses will not be impacted.
Nine new Kiwis
Some of New Zealand’s newest citizens were warmly received last week in South Wairarapa, with nine people pledging allegiance to King and country at Martinborough’s Waihenga centre. The ceremony was presided over by Mayor Martin Connelly in the second citizenship ceremony of the year. Both Connelly and the council’s interim chief executive, Paul Gardner, officially welcomed the new citizens.
Resilience raffle
There is still time to buy a ticket for the Whāngarei Resilience Fund Raffle. The current prize pool is more than South Wairarapa District Council is allowed to give away in one raffle, so they are splitting the prizes and running two more raffles. The first raffle will be drawn on July 26. The second and third raffles will run from July 26 to August 16. Tickets are $5 each and can be bought [with cash only] from the council office in Martinborough or any of the South Wairarapa libraries. People who have already bought a ticket for the first raffle will automatically go into the other raffle draws. More info at www.swdc.govt.nz.
