The driver of a vehicle that was being sought in relation to a hit-and-run incident in Greytown two weeks ago has come forward to police, who have said they now have a different vehicle of interest.
The hit-and-run happened on Sunday, June 25, between 6.30am and 7am on SH2 between North St and Ahikouka Rd.
The incident left a pedestrian, William Newton, in serious condition and he was later transported to Wellington Hospital for surgery.
Earlier this week police released images of CCTV footage showing a Mitsubishi Triton Ute that was in the area at the time of the incident, and asked for the driver to assist them with the investigation.
A police spokesperson has confirmed that the driver of this vehicle has since spoken to police.
Further inquiries have identified a different vehicle of interest, which is now the main focus of police inquiries, and police are now “working to locate that driver”.
Police aren’t currently in a position to release the details of this vehicle, the spokesperson said.
Police have iterated their request for anyone with information about the hit-and-run incident to contact them on 105, quoting file number 230625/2031.
