Wind and rain

Strong easterly winds and heavy rain is expected to hit Wairarapa today. Metservice meteorologist Amy Rossiter said a low-pressure centre is deepening to the east of New Zealand today, pushing strong easterlies and rain with “possibly heavy falls” into the east from Wairarapa to Canterbury. She said a series of “active and fast-moving fronts” will close in on the nation from the Southern Ocean later in the week, bringing a change to wintry conditions. Metservice said severe gales could hit Wairarapa on Saturday, but the chance is low. No warning or watches were issued for Wairarapa as of the time of print.

Med clarification

A story in Friday’s Times-Age about an information and communication technologies [ICT] outage impacting multiple hospitals in the Wellington Region had the headline ‘Med-tech meltdown hits region’s hospital’. The term ‘med-tech’ was a reference to the general ICT issues causing the outage, and was not referring to Medtech Evolution, the medical software system used by general medical practices in New Zealand.

Stadium closed

Featherston’s Sports Stadium is closed until further notice after flooding from a water leak. A spokesperson for South Wairarapa District Council said the leak was reported yesterday afternoon and said it appeared to come from a tap being left on in the kitchen earlier in the day. “We are just trying to ascertain the damage and get it back into working order,” they said.

Community funding

Applications are now open for Greytown Trust Land’s community funding. All local community groups, incorporated societies, and registered charities that currently operate within the Greytown District Electoral Ward are eligible to apply. Applicants must be able to clearly demonstrate how the activity they are seeking funding for will benefit the Greytown community socially, culturally, or environmentally. All grant recipients will be asked to complete an evaluation report following the activity or project explaining the difference the grant has made to the community. Printable forms are at https://greytowntrustlands.org.nz/.
