Thief convicted
A person has been convicted after stealing thousands of dollars of goods from Wairarapa Resource Centre. Paige Julius appeared in Masterton District Court on Friday, facing one burglary charge. The police prosecutor said Julius and three associates used a crowbar to break into the recycling and charity shop in the early hours of Tuesday morning on May 2. They spent two hours searching the premises with torches before leaving with two supermarket trolleys of goods. Julius is due to reappear in court on June 22, where she will be sentenced for the burglary charge alongside other charges she faces.
Kuripuni crash
Police received a report of a crash near the intersection of Queen St and South Rd, Kuripuni in Masterton at about 10.50am yesterday. Police said two cars were involved in a collision, but luckily both drivers avoided any injury.
Lockdown
A Featherston primary school went into lockdown for about one hour yesterday. Shortly after 1pm, Featherston School initiated lockdown measures for staff and students due to an incident happening on the street near the school. Principal Gina Smith said enforcing lockdown was a “precautionary measure” and that it was lifted after about an hour, with no reports of any harm to staff or students reported. Police could not confirm exactly what the event was that caused the lockdown, but said at about 1pm there was a family harm incident reported on Fitzherbert St. Police said no injuries were reported, and one person was arrested and taken into custody.
