Strike action
Chanel College in Masterton has informed parents that they will not be asking for students to stay at home during the scheduled strike action due to take place this month. In the letter sent home to student families, it states all students are expected to be at school and will be supervised by principal Myra Coley and other non-PPTA union members of staff. “Regular school attendance is crucial to developing sound learning habits that will help young people well into adulthood, support improved outcomes for wellbeing, relationships and achievement,” Coley said. The continued teacher’s strikes come after the secondary teacher’s union rejected the government’s latest offer, which included three pay increases over two years and a lump sum payment of $4500. Strikes continue today with years 11 and 12 rostered home.
Fine weather
for week ahead
The weather for the week ahead is looking mostly fine, according to Metservice. Evening cloud, light winds and isolated showers are set to develop along the coast tonight, with fresher southerlies developing tomorrow afternoon and evening. Other than that, the next few days should be low wind and low rain, although the temperature is still low, with Masterton set to reach a low of -2 degrees Celcius on Wednesday. Today, Masterton is set to reach a high of 13 degC and a low of 1 degC.

Adult tickets are currently down to $10 from $24, and children’s tickets are $3. There is also the option to book a family pass, which is $29, down from $65. Planned outages
PowerCo has work scheduled on Thursday this week to replace a power pole. Works will take place between 9am and 4pm on Whangaimoana Beach Rd in Featherston. PowerCo said 38 properties will be affected by these works, and residents may notice outages during the day.
