WW chief
The new permanent chief executive of Wellington Water [WW] is Tonia Haskell, who has been acting in the role since January this year. Haskell was the group manager for the network development and delivery group at Wellington Water, a position she had held for five years. WW interim chair Nick Leggett said Haskell’s appointment “provides stability for our organisation and region as it moves towards water reform”, nothing that WW needs to have the dual focus of delivery of Three Waters services on behalf of councils while also preparing for the shift to a new water services entity. WW is owned and funded by South Wairarapa District Council, Wellington, Hutt, Porirua, and Upper Hutt city councils, and Greater Wellington Regional Council, all of which are equal shareholders.
Winter weather
As we officially enter winter on Thursday, Metservice has low confidence of severe gales for the end of the working week. In the meantime, today is set to be cloudy, with a few showers. Isolated showers are due to set in across the region tomorrow. Metservice said that on Friday and Saturday, a disturbed showery west to southwest flow would affect New Zealand. “There is low confidence of westerly gales becoming severe about the Tararua District and Hawke’s Bay south of Hastings.”
Health workers stop to meet
Wairarapa nurses, midwives, and health care assistants who are members of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation [NZNO] and who work for Te Whatu Ora will be stopping work for two hours to attend a one-hour stop-work meeting this Thursday at 11am. The meeting is one of 57 happening around the country this week, as the NZNO members consider the latest offer from Te Whatu Ora “and discuss their next steps in the bargaining process”.
Masterton voltage drop
Powerco fault crews are investigating the cause of a momentary voltage dip its Masterton electricity customers experienced mid-morning yesterday. It confirmed “customers lost power supply” and said tests were underway at the Masterton substation, which is an exit point to the national grid.
